Some get confused when I call Sander or Alan my brothers. Aren't they technically my step-brothers?

So what is Sander to Alan? Just friends, I guess, though I'm glad of that. And now Sander has a newborn brother, so I'm starting to understand what it might be like from Alan's perspective. Very, very weird. But somehow family nonetheless.

Four brothers, and barely a measure of blood between them.

I made my immediate family suffer through a very cheesy CG film about combative chelonians, and then we picked up some Chinese take-out. And now it's raining.

Man, sometimes good things just come together.

It was a very cold trip to Victoria, we were dismayed to find, having been hopeful of at least a minor improvement in our environment. Well, not dismayed. We knew it'd be cold. And yet, Sander and I found ourselves walking down the streets with ice cream cones anyway. We went all over downtown, doing all the touristy things there are to do there. Don't feel the need to go into great detail...

...but I did take some cool pictures of a frozen-over fountain that was still running. Or, I hope they're cool. I'll post those up when I unearth my camera tomorrow night.

We'll be taking the Victoria Clipper up to B.C. bright and early tomorrow morning. Then once we're there to do who knows what for a day, back down for Monday evening. Hopefully it'll be full of fun and exciting adventures. Exciting at a minimum, since this is my mom's planning we're talking about.

About New Year's:

Long story short, we ended up with three more people than I had anticipated, and that basically spoiled the party. Mostly because of the obnoxious behavior. But I had also forgotten (since it never comes up for me, really) that role-playing is NOT a "more-the-merrier" affair. Nuclear War, perhaps, and certainly at LAN parties ... but not Dungeons and Dragons. After four, it just goes downhill. So with a party of eight, it took hours just to get them ready, and then there was no time to do the adventure, so we just split into teams and had them fight each other. All in all, not what I had hoped for, really. Somewhat boring.

So once half the kids had left, my brother and I were sitting there with the few good (and well-mannered) players when we decided we should try it again. In fact, we might make this a weekly deal. I used to go over there to play D&D with Alan's old crowd regularly, but that wore off when his friends moved away. Now that I'm bringing Sander, and I met a newbie who seems eager and friendly, it'd be neat to start that up again.

Especially if they like my suggestion: a d20 adaption of Fate of Io. I know, I know: crazy. But I figured out a way to make it work. Sander and I will be over there today--playing either Nuclear War or the adventure I'd had ready last week--and we'll just see what the new group thinks of it.

I'm excited, anyway. :P

Just got back from a dinner at Duke's on the waterfront. Horribly overpriced, but we had a 2 for 1, so it ended up being merely reasonable. I don't even like fish.

But the cold/flu thing is indeed getting better. I had some nasty apple-cinammon-type sinus medication beverage while I was at work, and that helped me get through it (though it didn't help during the time I was actually drinking it... that was more gag-reflex-inducing (much to Sarah's enjoyment at watching me choke it down (have I mentioned Sarah on here before? (Sarah == coworker/boss lady (so now you know))))).

Thinks to do this weekend: 1) Clean my disaster of a room. 2) Plan for D&D that will ensue during our (my brother Alan and I) New Year's get together. 3) Play D&D (among other things) during said get together. 4) Manage to return to a practical sleep schedule in time for next Tuesday.

We'll see how that goes.

So it's that time of year again ... my brother and sister both level u--er... I mean ... have birthdays. Damn you, WoW. -_-;

Anyway, I'll be gone out to dinner both tonight and tomorrow night for festive family birthday fun. I should probably head out as soon as I finish this, in fact. I'm looking forward to tomorrow more than tonight; tonight's just my dad's family at El Toro... like we used to do a few times a month anyway. Tomorrow, my sister is taking us to some ritzy Italian place up in Seattle. Very chic, apparently.

... and why the fuck isn't Naruto 272 scanlated yet?

Small world after all. According to a random LJ comment I ran across, there's a chunk of old UPS people playing on Cenarion Circle, which is the RP server that I just rolled up an undead to try out RP servers.

In other news, the camping was alright. My mother was bummed to leave after only one night, but I really didn't think it was a good idea to stay since we were quite evidently unprepared for even one night's stay. Anyway, the place was Rolley Lake Provincial Park, and though the camping setup was mediocre at best, the lake and the environment was stunningly silent and clear. I'd have liked to hike to the nearby waterfall, but we had to drop Sander off at his aunt's house that afternoon. Anyway, Canada is recommended. Yes, that's a general statement.
