Have some captions (they correspond to the jpg numbers, in case you couldn't figure it out):

  • Mom on the speedboat. Dig the hair.

  • This might give you idea of the veritable swarm of boats that choked the entrance to the bay while the ships were arriving. You can see the sales of the Cuauhtemoc on the horizon, and the Pacific Swift to its left, heading towards the camera.

  • The Pacific Swift at full sail.

  • An escort keeps onlookers away from the North Star. There was virtually a fleet of those security boats flanking the visiting ships.

  • A slightly blurry shot of the Kia Ora.

  • The Lady Washington boasts a clean paint job and a few deckhands in period costume. (The ship herself has done her share of acting; she had the role of the Interceptor in your favorite pirate movie.)

  • Wider shot of the Lady Washington.

  • Zodiac, one of several restored ships that made an appearance.

  • Amazing Grace--a local ship--works some wrinkles out of her sails.

  • When the Bill of Rights passed by, I heard a few jokes about a guy from Bates named Bill who's right. Can't comment, though; he's giving me a car. :P

  • Cuauhtemoc was popular, as you can tell by the swarms of pleasurecraft...

  • ...and low-flying helicopters.

  • But seriously. That thing is huge.

  • Avast, thar be Mexicans up thar! ... yar.

  • Talofa wins the Coolest Off-color Sails Award.

  • It says "Pallada"...

  • ... and I'm not sure what it means, but there's 356 feet and 4 inches of it.

  • Pallada, cont'd.

  • I wonder how much they paid to stand there.

  • Can you spot what doesn't belong in this picture?

  • Not sure Pallada was the one doing it, but after most of the ships past, a few let off some blank cannon rounds.

  • You might be able to see how crowded the waterfront was behind those two ships.

  • Talofa also wins points for flying pirate flags. Yar.

  • That's a nice jet-ski. Though I thought the best part was that he's still in full uniform under the life vest.

  • Damn yacht eclipses my shot of the Pallada with sails unfurled for her pass of the shoreline.

  • That's no boat ... it's a suspension bridge! And another one being built alongside it! ... and ... and ... and look!! A real lens flare! You never see those any more.

  • Not my ideal place of work.

This stuff looks great. I'm a student filmmaker at the University of Southern California and I'm currently directing my thesis film (a comedic zombie movie called "The Deadening"). For the opening sequence of the movie, our lead character is working in his garage--he's a boat enthusiast. We will need to have several photographs of boats around the room--as either 8x10 glossies or even poster-sized if we could get ahold of higher resolution pictures. I would love to use your photos for this if at all possible!

Although I can't offer you any money for the photos, I can send you a copy of the film on DVD when it is complete (probably around July 2007), as well as the printed photos we use in the film (8x10 glossy photos, likely in black and white, which we would create from the photos of boats you have uploaded above). We may also create a boat calendar as a prop, using a photo of yours, which we could send if you want it. Also, you would get credited in the film, along the lines of "Boat photography by Sam Pierce." However, we would need you to sign a release, the details of which my producers can furnish you with, if you are interested.

We are planning on shooting the scene involving the photos this weekend, so if you could get back to me as soon as possible, it would be a big help. Thank you so much!
