As one of the last pieces I wrote for Gunstorm, this one has to be the most fitting, most well-engineered work that got submitted. The mp3 was processed through Acid (which is something I’m doing more regularly now), to add several layers of effects at different points. But really, with a piano melody supported by full orchestra, all tied to a quasi-techno beat, you can’t go wrong.
Funny story behind the running motif, too. It was inspired by Evlan’s generational garbage collection algorithm (I’m not sure whether it’s actually implemented in the current version of Evlan). Anyhow, Kenton was telling me how it recursively scanned, using numerals to identify each progressive sweep: 1, 1 2 1, 1 2 1 3 1 2 1, 1 2 1 3 1 2 1 4 1 2 1 3 1 2 1. The more musically-inclined will hear this clearly, though I admittedly have the last phrase wrong (in the music, it’s “1 2 1 3 1 4 1 3 1 2 1”). Oh well. It’s artistic license!
